Altered Colors (Self Portrait)

This painting is part of a set of work that focuses on light
more than the subject matter that it illuminates.  For this part of the series, I am looking at lighting and how it impacts the way a person is perceived.
Here, the colorful lights from a strand of Christmas lights
falls playfully on the face and creates new contrasts as each color tends to highlight a different plane of the face.  There is a delicate balance between hue and value to keep the structure of the face accurate.  In an effort to create a balance of color, those that show up on the face also appear in the background in a softer and faded manner except for blue, which creates a focal point in the work near the left eye.
