The figure pictured in this work is my own father.  Family relationships have always been very important to me, so I like
to feature those closest to me in my art practice in a loving manner from time to time.  The reason I chose to depict his expression in this way relates to his personality and behavior when having his picture taken.  It's not often that he will take a straightforward photo with a regular smile; he will often make a goofy face instead.
In an effort to play with him as he does the rest of us in photo events, myself and my family will often take pictures of him slightly off guard having only gotten to look our way, but not telling him why - hence why he appears mid-chew and slightly caught
off guard.
