This painting is part of a set of work that focuses on light
more than the subject matter that it illuminates.  For this part of the series, I am looking at lighting and level of visibility and how it can relate to the self.
Here, there is a strong contrast between the level of ren-dering for the background and the figure, creating a clear separation between the self and the environment that surrounds the self, even with a consistent lighting.  In the future, I hope to work more with this loose style of rendering that mimics looking through a piece of textured glass with more landscape settings and even figures.  I also hope to branch out into blurred renderings as well, as it relates well to the state of my poor vision.
The idea for this method of rendering came from a practice piece / study pictured here.  I was experimenting with a new method of paint strokes to mimic the view of the outside through a textured window in my home.  Blending was min-imal and brushstrokes were all larger to mimic the texture of the glass.
